Education: Cody grew up in Cambodia where he attended high school, completing an AP curriculum before enrolling at the University of Virginia. He is now pursuing a double focus in Biology and Data Science. Cody is especially drawn to the intersection of these two fields and hopes to find ways to bring quantitative and computational approaches into a future in healthcare. His coursework has given him a strong foundation across both the life sciences and applied data analysis.
Experience: During high school, Cody volunteered to teach elementary and middle school math to students at his school and helped local students learn English at L’Enfant D’Asia, a local orphanage. This experience shaped his passion for making challenging material accessible to young learners. He also founded a peer-led math club, helping classmates strengthen their understanding of core concepts and preparing students to compete in the Math Olympiad. Since then, Cody has continued tutoring through MLS Educational Consultants in math and the sciences with integrated emphasis on executive functioning and organization techniques.
Specialties: Cody specializes in tutoring algebra I and II, geometry, biology, and chemistry. Drawing on his own path through rigorous AP coursework and into pre-med studies, he emphasizes teaching students to reason through a problem, working from first principles rather than shortcuts, so that a formula or a concept isn’t just memorized, but understood well enough to build on in more advanced coursework.
