Small Group Tutoring

Summer Programs

One-on-One tutoring is a valuable approach to enhancing student performance in specific academic areas including reading, writing, math, science, history, foreign language, and organization. Many factors contribute to the academic difficulties students face in these areas. One-on-One tutoring enables students to work closely with tutors attuned to their individual learning styles and needs. Students receive consistent support from tutors who are encouraging, innovative, and flexible.

One-on-One tutoring is an optimal approach to standardized test preparation. Gateway examinations such as the ACT and SAT test a wide variety of skills in an exhausting and nerve-racking manner. Students bring different strengths and challenges to these tests. Tutors will work with students to develop a tutoring program that meets the individual needs of the students. Students will learn effective strategies for approaching the tests, as well as gain confidence in their abilities to tackle difficult exams. One-on-One tutoring is currently available for the ACT, SAT, SSAT, ISEE, GMAT, and GRE.

One-on-One at-home or at-school tutoring

Students and families are at times best served with tutoring at their homes or at their schools. An individual program can be provided at these locations.

Small Group Tutoring – Individualized program in a small group setting

Small group tutoring is a highly effective way for students to build academic, study, and organization skills. It also enables students to model the effective behaviors they observe in the group and empowers them to become a positive model for other students. Children experience a stress-free and comfortable environment where they are taught necessary skills and then can practice these skills independently in a format designed to transfer to the “real-life” school experience.

Children meet with tutors in the group setting for approximately three hours at a time, a time frame which allows for organization, teaching, and completion of a significant amount of school work. Tutors with expertise in elementary and most secondary academic courses are available during these group sessions. The average student-teacher ratio during group work is three to one.

Summer Programs – Individual and Small Group Format

• Students are evaluated and appropriate materials provided.
• Pace of the program is determined by the needs of the student.
• The continuum includes work at the independent and instructional level so students feel success and mastery.
• Tasks are structured to maximize efficient work habits.
• Enrichment and remediation of skills and content areas is available.
• Preteaching of subject matter is employed as a way to familiarize students with content areas to help insure a successful and smooth transition into the next academic year.
