Amy’s Full Bio

Education: Amy grew up locally after her parents relocated to Falls Church, VA after serving in the Army in Bangkok, Thailand when Amy and her sisters were young. She graduated from George C. Marshall High School and went on to attend the University of Virginia. Amy holds a B.A. in Foreign Affairs and an M.Ed. in Social Foundations of Education.

Experience: Amy worked at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC where she presented programs to area school children, movies and lectures to local residents, and special programs, including some at the Kennedy Center. She also learned two of the Japanese alphabets, allowing her to teach school children how to write their names in Japanese. She also has years of business experience in insurance claims, underwriting and management. Amy’s most rewarding positions include those with Virginia Beach Public Schools. Through the PALS literacy program, she taught reading and writing to at-risk elementary school students.  She worked one-on-one with IEP students and tutored reading after school. In her spare time, Amy is an avid reader, traveler and enjoys spending time with her family and pets, a Puerto Rican rescue dog and 3 cats!


Specialties: Amy enjoys helping students with reading, writing and humanities instruction at all levels from preschool through college level courses. She incorporates executive functioning support in each lesson she teaches. Her greatest pleasure is watching a student have an “ah ha” moment and learning to build on the simplest foundation. She loves working with people and helping them learn to overcome obstacles. She believes children are our greatest resource.
