Mary Lou Sullivan
Founder and CEO
Specialties: Mary Lou is highly skilled in the ability to determine a student’s learning style, analyze the assigned task, and match an approach. She has an extensive background in teaching children in elementary, middle, and high school level school placements and is therefore acquainted with an understanding of the sequenced demands of curriculum throughout students’ academic careers. She is highly effective at instructing beginning reading and writing skills. In addition, she instructs and designs instructional and support programs for a wide continuum of learning styles to support academic areas affected by learning or attentional issues throughout all grade levels.
Amy Jones
Education Program Director
Specialties: Amy enjoys helping students with reading, writing and humanities instruction at all levels from preschool through college level courses. She incorporates executive functioning support in each lesson she teaches. Her greatest pleasure is watching a student have an “ah ha” moment and learning to build on the simplest foundation. She loves working with people and helping them learn to overcome obstacles. She believes children are our greatest resource.
Evan Finnell
Program Director, One-on-One Tutoring and College Planning
Specialties: Evan enjoys teaching all levels of science and math to students in middle school, in high school, and at the college level. He strives for students to make real-world connections and applications where they otherwise might get lost in the numbers and jargon. Evan takes a steady, grammar-first approach to Spanish, solidifying the skills that students learn in the classroom while helping students to make connections between new vocab and previously-learned material. Evan incorporates executive function skill-building in his lessons to support student’s development in this critical area.
Jordan Hudson
Program Coordinator, Test Prep
Specialties: Jordan’s specialty is fostering a love for mathematics and the sciences by highlighting the reality of the material as it applies to the students and how we use can use tools like mathematical modeling to understand the complexities of the natural and scientific world around us. In addition, Jordan tries to extend his own innate curiosity for all parts of the natural and physical world around us to his students. It is not unusual for Jordan to hold the complete attention of both students and staff alike as he dynamically and clearly explains complex scientific concepts. He has also studied Classical Latin prose and poetry in high school and college and is well-versed in his knowledge of the Roman culture and language. Jordan also leads the MLS team for standardized test tutoring, and stays up to date on the latest changes to secondary school admissions tests (SSAT, HSPT, ISEE) and college gateway tests (SAT, ACT).

Sue Gail Spring
Senior Academic and Executive Functioning Specialist
Specialties: Sue Gail specializes in the Humanities. She teaches deep reading, literary analysis, and the basics of writing successful literary essays with a clear thesis statement, strong claims, and carefully selected quotes that support the thesis. For History classes, Sue Gail guides students in finding and assessing valid research sources and in techniques for using school databases as well as how to organize notes into a cohesive paper with proper citations. She supports students in AP Language, AP Literature, AP World History, and AP Government classes. Sue Gail also works with college students wanting writing support, as well as students preparing college and graduate school admission essays. Thanks to her time attending the University of Madrid as an undergraduate student, she also teaches Spanish grammar. Sue Gail’s overriding goal is to provide support that will help students feel confident and accomplished in their work since nothing motivates like success.
Nora Callahan
Academic and Executive Functioning Specialist
Specialties: Nora focuses on working with students who need help organizing their workload and getting started. She specializes in basic to advanced math, physics, essay writing, and basic to intermediate Spanish, and incorporates executive function skill building into every lesson. Nora enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for the subject matter and helps those students who are a little intimidated by it to study effectively and celebrate their successes, garnering new confidence and a love of learning in the process. Nora is a avid runner and has completed two marathons!
Kiran Ehrbeck-Malhotra
Academic and Executive Functioning Specialist
Specialties: Kiran specializes in tutoring students in all levels of math, ranging from middle school to the undergraduate level, including AP statistics. He emphasizes understanding the underlying principles behind formulas and concepts, rather than accepting them at face value or using them without grasping their meaning. In addition, Kiran enjoys teaching physics. Kiran also specializes in standardized test preparation and works with preparing students for the SAT, ACT, and high-school admissions tests including the SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT.

Noah Bourlett
Academic and Executive Functioning Specialist
Specialties: Noah specializes in STEM fields, with expertise in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and mathematics. He maintains VA teaching certification to teach Biology and AP Biology, and currently teaches both Honors and AP Chemistry in LCPS. He also has a decade of experience working with students one-on-one on Honors and AP Physics (1, 2, and C: Mechanics), Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, AP Precalculus, and AP Calculus (AB and BC). His breadth of experience with stem content allows him to meet students where they are and ensure they understand the mathematical background to succeed in higher level science and math classes.

Walter Rose
Academic and Executive Functioning Specialist
Specialties: Walter enjoys teaching as well as learning from his students. Richard Feynman (Nobel Laureate) famously said, “If you want to master something, teach it.” This sets the tone for the way Walter conducts every lesson regardless of the students ability and prior knowledge. Walter specializes in tutoring all levels of mathematics through Multivariable Calculus/Linear Algebra and can tutor AP Statistics and AP Physics C.
John Holland
Academic and Executive Functioning Specialist
Specialties: John specializes in elementary school reading and writing skills, SAT Reading and Writing, and college admission essay revision. He enjoys helping students analyze their own work and finding patterns in their performance to help them improve. In his free time, John enjoys playing a good game of chess, reading self-help books, and traveling.

Loretta D'Ermes
Director, Operations and Finance
Loretta is a McLean native. She graduated from McLean High School, received a BBA from
James Madison University and an MBA from The George Washington University. She
previously worked in government contracting, telecommunications, and owned an
executive search firm with her husband. She was an MLS parent for 13 years before she
joined the team in 2015. She spends her free time knitting, reading and watching sports.
River Carlson
Scheduling Manager
River grew up in Vienna, Virginia, attending James Madison High School, graduating as a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Honor. They went on to graduate summa cum laude from the College of William & Mary with a degree in psychology and a minor in music. While at William & Mary, they completed a semester abroad at the Université d’Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provençe, studying French language and culture. River has worked at MLS since 2019, first as a test prep and academic tutor and then as part of the scheduling team since 2020. They have acted as the Client Care Manager since 2021, serving as the first point of contact for most parents looking to enroll their children at MLS. In addition to speaking with and emailing parents, River enjoys solving the Tetris-like puzzle that is scheduling lessons. In their free time, River enjoys reading, music, and making bad pottery.
Haleema Sullivan
Client Care Specialist
Haleema grew up all over the United States and American Samoa and has lived, studied, and worked in Europe and South America. She has 20+ years of experience in marketing, business development, and corporate risk in the financial services, hospitality, transportation, government, and non-profit industries. She holds an MBA in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a B.S. in Political Science, with a Minor in Chemistry, from Truman State University. Haleema lives in Falls Church, Virginia, with her husband, Brendan, and two daughters.
Bella Sullivan
Emotional Support Offurcer
Bella is a small but mighty Havanese who thinks she is bigger than she actually is. She can always be found close behind Mary Lou, wherever she goes! Bella loves meeting and interacting with the students, and she is always willing to stop for an ear scratch or back rub. She has an excellent wardrobe, so look out for her fashions and costumes!
Luna Hudson
Pawsitive Attitude Enforcer
Luna, the MLS Pawsitive Attitude Enforcer, is a registered emotional support dog and is thrilled to receive a little love from students. She graduated from obedience school with flying colors and is known for her seasonal wardrobes. She appreciates having her bowl in the kitchenette even though she doesn’t eat pizza.
